Aim and Purpose

Why create this site...

This website has been created to act as a platform for young adults to obtain specific information on living with type one diabetes.

From the age of 16 to 25 a lot of changes happen within life and you create a lot of new chapters. You might go to 6th form college, start university or start your first job. You may learn to drive, go on holiday alone for the first time, or simple take charge of your own prescriptions and appointments.

This website will hopefully become a one stop shop for all this information needed by young diabetics.

About me...

I was diagnosed as Type 1 Diabetic at the age of 9 years old. I have since been through secondary school, 6th form college and am now in university. I have learnt to drive, been on several holidays including skiing in France, summers in Italy, Spain and Hungary and working holidays to Ethiopia.

I have had my ups and downs with my diabetes, and have days filled with hypos and some where my sugars don't seem to want to respond to any insulin. My Hba1c's are not perfect, they have been high, spot on and almost there. I have had days of tears and days of pure happiness.

However I try to never let my diabetes control me. I find something I want to do and then think - "how can my diabetes fit in". Not the other way round. I don't hate having diabetes, it has made me the person that I am today and has got me to where I am. I have never been happier with my life, and I would not be here without it.

To help improve this website, I would appreciate it if you could take the time to fill out the questionaire.
